Manage Storage Group Data Exclusion Windows
Storage group data exclusion windows are used to resolve unexpected behavior observed in storage group service level compliance calculations.
About this task
This procedure explains how to manage storage group data exclusion windows for resolving unexpected storage group service level compliance behavior.
Storage group exclusion windows are similar to the system level data exclusion windows (see Manage System Data Exclusion Windows), but the exclusion applies only to the response time data of a specific storage group.
The Exclude Data button on the Compliance tab is a split button to launch both the system level exclusions dialog and the storage group exclusions dialog. If the storage group has a nonzero workload, clicking Exclude data launches the storage group exclusion dialog. Selecting Storage Group launches the storage group-specific dialog. Selecting System launches the system-wide exclusions dialog. If the storage does not have a non-zero workload, clicking the Exclude data button launches the system-wide exclusion dialog, and the Storage Group option in the drop-down menu is disabled.
Peaks in storage group statistics can occur due to anomalies or unusual events.
There are two ways to improve the handling of these cases:
- One-time exclusion period—when the one-time exclusion period value is set, all statistics before this time are ignored. This setting helps resolve the first case above, where a significant one-time peak distorts the results due to reliance on two weeks of data points. This setting is set for a single storage group at a time.
- Recurring exclusion period—You can select one or more 4-hour windows to use in admissibility checks. This setting is set for a single storage group at a time. Recurring exclusion periods are repeating periods of selected weekday or time slot combinations where collected data is ignored for the purposes of compliance considerations. The data is still collected and reported, but it is not used in those calculations.

Results
The dialog displays weighted response time buckets for the storage group over two weeks in a single chart. You can set the one-time exclusion period value from a given time slot, resulting in all time slots before the selected time slot being ignored for the purposes of calculating compliance values.
The colors of the bars signify the following states:
Green represents a weighted response time that meets the maximum response time threshold for the service level of the storage group.
Red represents a weighted response time that exceeds the maximum response time threshold for the service level of the storage group.
Gray represents a weighted response time that is being ignored before the one-time exclusion period.
Light Gray represents a weighted response time that is being ignored before the recurring exclusion period.
No Bar – If no data was collected or calculated during a time slot, there is no bar present.
You can select and set a time slot before which all collected data is ignored. You select the time slot by clicking the bar. Clicking the bar opens a dialog to choose the type of data exclusion to be applied to the selected bar. The dialog has two check boxes to select the type of exclusion to be applied , and information is displayed under each checkbox to explain the relevant action based on the bar selected (see Manage Data Exclusion actions).
Alerts
There is a system alert generated each time that a user changes a one-time exclusion period value or a recurring exclusion period value.
